1966 Alvis 3-Litre TF21 Drophead Coupe … Sold

The legendary TF 21 was the last and most advanced Alvis ever made, with triple carbs giving increased power, plus other improvements over its predecessor the TE21. The Series III/IV featured superb stacked twin headlights, reminiscent of the iconic Facel Vega HK500. Only 106 TF21’s were made of which only 21 were made into Dropheads. They were all hand built, but, costing twice the price of a Jaguar, the writing was on the wall and production ceased in 1967. Presented here is an outstanding, matching numbers late example, in Alice blue metallic with magnolia leather upholstery and contrasting mohair lined hood with the optional power steering & chrome wire wheels.

Comprehensively restored by Marque Specialist Engineer who has professionally restored 18 previous Alvis cars, and he was very proud of the work he did on this one which he intended to keep and take to Alvis events, before a change of plan brought it to the market. He personally attended to every detail of the rebuild, from stem to stern, including the fabrication of the interior trim and weather gear, all done to high workmanlike standard.

During the rebuild, the car was skilfully converted from a Fixed to Drophead Coupe, the use of precision replica parts has resulted in a virtually indistinguishable from factory product. The whole car has been systematically reassembled – chassis repaired and strengthened, ash framework attended to, new wings, sills and other metalwork, new stainless steel bumpers and overriders, new copper brake pipes, cylinders etc In the process, the engine was stripped, cleaned and inspected, along with cooling system, the transmission was upgraded from Borg Warner automatic to 5-speed manual Type 9 gearbox, using an approved conversion kit. Finally, bare-metal resprayed in correct Alice Blue.

The new hood is easily operated with chrome pram irons and parks neatly behind rear seat. A matching hood bag and full tonneau cover, fold away inside a specially made mohair hood case with Alvis monogram, a nice piece of detailing. The car is also fitted with four colour-coded seat belts for driver and passengers.

This showstopper classic, offered tens of thousands below the market price for a Mulliner TF21 Drophead in similar show condition, would take a real expert aficionado to spot the difference, should there be any to spot.
