1959 MGA 1600 Coupe £27,995 (32,395 Euros)

Rarely do we describe a car as “Totally Concours and probably the best example known” but this sleek MG fully justifies that accolade. The discerning collector looking for only the very best, really must view this stunning car.

The car has undergone a complete rebuild, including body off and bare metal restoration of the chassis and body. The car was perfectly usable before, the initial intention being to replace just the sills, but once started the plan escalated to a full nut and bolt job which took five years. All the body panels are original, not repro or fibreglass, with the exception of the sills which are new stock. The engine has been stripped and rebuilt, incorporating hardened valve seats suitable for unleaded petrol and a new set of rocker gear. The car is now set for a further 50 years +

One unique feature, is the sunroof, similar to a targa top. A skilled craftsman handmade this removable roof panel which can be stowed in the boot. The workmanship is second to none, and exactly follows the compound curves of the bonnet and boot lid. This provides open air driving with the stiffness of a Coupe. A nice job was also made of the headlining of the roof and the panel. The restoration also included a complete re-trim in leather and new carpets.

She has loads of extras including a heater, adjustable steering column, wire wheels, twin spot lights, not forgetting a luggage rack for your picnic hamper. While in the hands of the last keen owner, she was serviced and oil-changed every year and wax oiled every 3 years. She was kept in a heated garage, so still looks in original new condition, as you can tell from the accompanying pictures.

Upgrades include an oil cooler and, because the BMC ‘B’ series engine does not breathe very well, an extractor sports manifold has been fitted, which gives 5 – 10% more power, bringing the BHP up from 80 to 85 – 88, it is quite noticeable that the performance has improved. Last year a 5-speed Mazda MX5 “Vitesse” close ratio gearbox was fitted, for relaxed Motorway cruising This cost £3,500! (speedo duly re-calibrated) This lovely car is finished in original Iris blue with pale blue leather trim. For security, she is fitted with a battery cut-off and has just had a new set of tyres fitted.
