1964 Daimler V8 250 Saloon … Sold
A lovely, genuine low mileage Daimler 250 V8, in distinguished Masons Black with Claret Red leather upholstery, and lots of polished veneers, impressive bodywork and chrome. Plenty of grunt from the 2,5 litre V8 engine which is fresh from the engine shop, having been stripped, inspected and overhauled with reground crank etc, resulting in textbook oil pressure. Will require some running in.
This quintessentially British car has a great deal of supporting history and has had lots of money spent on it over the years. The most recent bills alone total £10,000 including £5,100 for engine and automatic gearbox overhaul, but there are also scores of receipts dating right back to the mid 1960’s. There are only 4 private recorded owners, who have kept the most meticulous records we have ever seen on any classic car. Virtually every MOT certificate from 1967 onwards verifies the total mileage of only 74,345. The Daimler new car wallet is in mint condition, containing not 1 but 2 stamped up Passport to Service Booklets. It even has a card with the name of the professional factory delivery driver, who was of course a member of the IAM.
The original buff logbook is also to hand, along with a wad of invoices and correspondence from Daimler factory and supplying dealer, including the actual 1964 Sales Invoice for the car and the original Daimler Sales Brochure. Very rare items indeed. Plus the original Driver’s handbook and period radio (to listen to the Light Programme) Nostalgia at its finest.
The Daimler cost £1,804 when new, and an allowance was made of £340 for a part-exchange 1954 Daimler, so the first owner was obviously a Marque enthusiast. According to the Dealer invoice the new car was unusually ordered with PAS, reclining front seats and power lock differential. It was also undersealed and fitted with 2 safety straps and a charge of just over £2 was made for 10 gallons of 5 star petrol…those were the days.
The owner’s toolkit is present in its box located in the spare wheel well. Sold with a very valuable number plate EML1B!
